THE GATES TO THE ANCIENT WALL CITY OF XIAN
The North Gate is the most visible of the four major gates located along the cardinal points as it is in front of the Xian main railway station the main arrival point to Xian. The ancient wall was first built during the Tang Dynasty (618 to 907).
The wall was enlarged & fortified by the first Ming Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang who reigned from 1368 to 1398.
The South Gate is the most well maintained of the four major gates of Xian located on the cardinal points of the ancient city wall of Xian. Tourist buses are found every day at the foot of the Gate.

The West Gate. This Gate is the closest to the Gu Lou or Drum Tower which lies along Xi Dajie (West Main Street).
